Mike had some equipment to pick up in Jacksonville, NC so we combined a business trip with our birthday trip and headed for the Atlantic Coast. We headed out Friday morning with bright sunshine and warm temperatures. By the time we arrived in Jacksonville, the clouds were getting thicker, the temperature had soared to 80+ and the humidity was at least equal to the temperature if not more. By the time we had the equipment in hand and a late lunch, we finally arrived at our bed and breakfast: Harborlight Guest House Bed & Breakfast . This unique bed and breakfast inn juts out on a peninsula wrapped by 530 feet of Bogue Sound waterfront. We met Bob as we arrived and he showed us around the common areas where we were welcome to make ourselves at home. There were snacks, DVDs, VHS Tapes and books we could help ourselves to at anytime during our stay. The onslight of rain caused us to head immediately to our room so that we could get our suitcases and bodies in out of the storm. The sky opened up, the temperatures stayed warm and while Mike caught up on some business I sat out on our little deck, watched the rain and took some pictures and read my book. As darkness descended we headed out for our birthday dinner at the Gourmet Cafe. We sat near the windows and watched the rain continue to come down in torrents and the wind start to blow. When we got up on Saturday morning, it was still warm enough to journey out onto the desk and take some pictures as the rain continued to descend and the wind continued to blow. After a delightful breakfast served in our room by our hosts we decided to head out for Morehead City, Beaufort, Atlantic Beach and a few other places where Mike was born and brought up. We wandered along the beach area loaded with summer rental homes and watched the angry surf pound the shore. The sun started to peak out a little after 1pm but though the temperature may have remained the same, the winds definitely provided a wind chill factor. Lunch was at The Sanitary Fish Market & Restaurant in Morehead City late in the day. A light supper awaited us in the evening. Sunday morning we lazed about after getting up earlier than intended (Daylight savings didn't seem to matter much this morning) while waiting for our breakfast. We enjoyed once again a cultinary delight prepared by Bob and Debbie and then lazily made our way back to Charlotte. We had another one of those wonderful mini-vacations with great hosts and another bed and breakfast we would like to come back and visit. |
