| For our birthdays this year, Mike and I took off on Friday the 17th for Cape Carteret and a B&B over there that we really liked the first time around. Harborlight Guest House Bed & Breakfast . This unique bed and breakfast inn juts out on a peninsula wrapped by 530 feet of Bogue Sound waterfront. We met Bob as we arrived and he showed us around the common areas where we were welcome to make ourselves at home. There were snacks, DVDs, VHS Tapes and books we could help ourselves to at anytime during our stay. Friday Night we stopped at a place called Mrs. Willis Restaurant. This eatery was founded by "Ma Willis" when she served up platters of barbecue from a one-room garage with the help of some of her six children. Originally, she cooked barbecue, chicken, and homemade pies for takeout, but in time, business demanded that she open a full-fledged restaurant. The restaurant has remained a local tradition, known for its prime ribs and choice charcoaled steaks. The barbecue is highly recommended, as are the Southern-style vegetables. The place is cozy and rather rustic, with a fireplace, background music, and lots of Southern hospitality. In addition to a good wine list, the restaurant has full bar service. Mike's Grandmother and Mrs. Willis were sisters and they used to deliver home made BBQ to their house. One of her great granddaughters showed Mike a geneology of the Willis', Pelletiers and Wades (on Mike's Mother's side) which was very extensive. We also found one at The History Place and I have a couple of pictures of that one. | |
