To define the Order of DeMolay, or the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, is a difficult task. Both organizations have to be lived to be understood. One of the things we have in common, is the building of better citizens. As DeMolay's purpose is the building of better men and better leaders, we have asked you, the members of El Cajon Valley Chapter, to join with us this evening in order that we may pay tribute to DeMolay.

WAA
The Order of DeMolay was founded at Kansas City, Missouri in 1919 by Frank S. Land. His inspiration for this Order was a fatherless boy seeking companionship, leadership, and inspiration. With eight other boys, they founded the beginning of the Order of DeMolay. This group of boys took as their name, DeMolay, in honor of Jacques DeMolay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templars. A DeMolay always bears a good reputation, and by example must preserve the high standards of living to which he has obligated himself.

CHARITY
DeMolay and Rainbow, together with Jobs Daughters, form the hope of the Masonic Fraternity for the future of our nation. Together, these organizations strengthen the character of the youth of our Country. Through the obligations taken at the Altar, we have become channels through which the Masonic Fraternity might benefit mankind.

HOPE
Our Ancestors were well aware that in order to survive, we must value our religious, civil and intellectual liberty. Without a strict obedience to those doctrines, our nation, and our ritual organizations could not long have survived. The Religious Liberty of Demolay is symbolized, as in all Masonic Fraternities, by the Holy Bible which rests upon the Altar. The Flag of our Country, with stripes of red and white and stars on field of blue, proclaim to all nations the Civil Liberty of a great nation which permits organizations such as DeMolay and Rainbow to prosper and survive. However, not to be forgotten, is our Intellectual Liberty, symbolized in all DeMolay Chapters by the School Books upon the Altar.

FAITH
The Crown of DeMolay symbolizes the Crown of Youth and is a reminder to all DeMolays of their obligations, and the seven precepts of the Order. The pearls of the crown together with the rubies, honor your Founder and the nine youths whose ties of friendship drew them together to form the Order of DeMolay. When the final sumins is received by members of this honored group, a red ruby takes the place of a pearl. The Heart symbolizes Chivalry, the Crescent is a sign of Secrecy, The White Cross represents Purity, the Crossed Swords denote justice and the Stars are emblematic of Hope.

LOVE
In DeMolay, the first jewel in the Crown of Youth represents filial love. As a child, we freely display our love for our parents. But as reach our teen years, it becomes more difficult to display that affection. As members of DeMolay and Rainbow, we should always keep this jewel shining brightly and never forget what the jewel of filial love represents.

RELIGION
May the Jewel of Reverence for the Sacred Things never diminish. As Children of a Universal Father, we should unite for the betterment of mankind and keep the beauty of life, represented by the Brotherhood of Yian, shining brightly.

NATURE
No jewel in the Crown of Youth would be complete without that of Courtesy. We are all guilty of reserving our courtesy for strangers and often forget that those who are closest to us deserve the same thoughtfulness and consideration. The Jewel of Courtesy should be one that comes naturally and is forever an important part of our lives. Courtesy to all should be the watchword for Rainbow and DeMolay.

IMMORTALITY
To be a friend, and to be true to that friendship, represents the jewel of Comradship. When you extend the Hand of Friendship to others, you enrich the world in which you live. For it is loyalty to your friends which glorifies that world.

FIDELITY
The Jewel of Fidelity in our Crown of Youth has many parts. That of Fidelity to Home, Church and Nation. Jacques DeMolay accepted death rather than betray his friends. While we may not be called upon to suffer death for our beliefs, we should always remember the ideals set forth by our Orders, and honor that loyalty and all it represents.

PATRIOTISM
The Jewel of Patriotism represents a belief in a free form of government and the courage to defend it against all those who would enslave our great nation. Countless thousands have laid down their lives on the field of battle in the name of Patriotism. But a life need not be lost by following our Flag to the utter most parts of the earth. The Patriotism of Peace is perhaps the brightest jewel in the diadem of DeMolay.

SERVICE
The Jewel representing Cleanness is emblematic of cleanness in every thought, word and deed. No matter where our footsteps take us, no matter what turns and twists the fates of life have in store for us, we should always remember that we carry with us forever, our membership in the Order of DeMolay and the Order of the Rainbow. Every Thought, Word and Deed should always reflect, throughout our lives, the teachings of these very special fraternities.

WA
As Rainbow Girls, we have, tonight, received just a glimpse of what DeMolay means. While your lessons differ in wording from ours, they both promulgate the strengthening of our characters. By their very nature, these teachings will stay with us as we go forth into a world filled with conflict and strife and help us to make that world a better place for all mankind.
